Where it came from
Fury was released as part of the Modern Horizons 2 set in June 2021, designed specifically to introduce powerful cards into the Modern format of Magic: The Gathering. This particular card belongs to the cycle of mythic rare elemental incarnations, which were created to offer flexible, high-impact spells that could be cast for free by exiling a matching color card from the player's hand. Its design reflects a move toward faster, more interactive gameplay, emphasizing the strategic cost of card disadvantage in exchange for immediate board presence.
The artwork for this specific promotional version was created by illustrator Raymond Swanland, whose signature high-energy, dynamic style is intended to convey the elemental’s aggressive nature. As a marquee card in the set, it was received with significant attention from the competitive community, eventually becoming a staple in high-level play. Its status as a promo—often distributed through specialized retail channels or tournament support—makes it a sought-after piece for players who value the unique aesthetic flair of alternate-art iterations.
