Provenance

Where it came from

The Germ token was released as part of the Double Masters expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game in 2020. This set was specifically designed as a premium, draftable product, reprinting powerful and popular cards from the game's history to celebrate its enduring legacy among collectors and competitive players.

The art for this token, created by illustrator Jesper Ejsing, features the distinct, ethereal aesthetic often associated with the Phyrexian-aligned cards in the game. It serves as a visual representation of the Germ creature type, which is frequently summoned through the game's 'Living Weapon' mechanic, where an equipment card enters the battlefield and attaches itself to a freshly created 0/0 token.
