Germ

The Germ token was released as part of the Modern Masters 2015 set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Tokens in this set were designed to represent creatures brought into play by specific 'Living Weapon' equipment cards, a mechanic originally introduced in the Scars of Mirrodin block. The token serves as a physical placeholder for the creature entity created when such an artifact enters the battlefield, ensuring gameplay remains clear and organized.

The art for this specific token was illustrated by Steve Argyle, who has contributed extensively to the visual identity of the game. Argyle’s design reflects the distinct aesthetic of the Phyrexians, the game's primary antagonists, characterized by a visceral, biomechanical fusion of flesh and metal. The reception of these tokens has been consistently positive among players, valued for both their functional necessity during gameplay and their consistent, thematic adherence to the dark, intricate art style synonymous with the Phyrexian faction.
