Provenance

Where it came from

Ghitu Encampment was originally introduced in the Urza's Saga expansion in 1998, designed as a cycle of utility lands that could animate into creatures. These cards were created to provide players with additional strategic options during the mid-to-late game, allowing a deck to convert excess land into an offensive threat. The concept was well-received for adding depth to deck construction, as it minimized the risk of flooding the board with unhelpful lands.

For the Tenth Edition core set released in 2007, the card was reprinted with new artwork by the acclaimed fantasy illustrator John Avon. Avon, known for his sweeping and immersive landscapes, brought a refined, atmospheric quality to the encampment, emphasizing the rugged terrain of the Ghitu encampment. His contribution maintained the card's status as a functional staple, blending a clear mechanical purpose with the elevated aesthetic standards expected of the Tenth Edition's modernized card frame.
