Where it came from
Gideon's Phalanx was released in 2015 as part of the Magic Origins expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This specific version, identified as card number 14s, was distributed as a promotional card, typically available through various organized play events or promotional programs associated with the set's release. It serves as a white sorcery card that creates four 2/2 white Knight creature tokens with vigilance, reflecting the tactical, protective nature of the planeswalker Gideon Jura.
The card's artwork, illustrated by the artist Chase Stone, captures the dramatic scale of Gideon’s supernatural military support. Stone utilized a dynamic composition to emphasize the heroic, defensive theme of the ability, aligning with the narrative arc of Magic Origins, which explored the backstories and 'spark ignition' moments of five iconic planeswalkers. The design was well-received by players focusing on white-aligned decks for its ability to stabilize a board state, establishing it as a thematic staple of the set's promotional offerings.
