Gideon's Reproach

Gideon's Reproach was released in 2018 as part of the Dominaria expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card represents a moment of divine or tactical judgment associated with the planeswalker Gideon Jura, a central character in the game's long-running lore. It was designed as a white instant spell, a common utility tool for players to remove attacking or blocking creatures, fitting the color's thematic focus on protection and retribution.

The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss, who has contributed extensively to the visual identity of the game. Voss utilized a dramatic, sweeping composition that highlights the kinetic energy of Gideon's signature sural weapon. Upon its release, the card was well-regarded for its functional simplicity and the way it reinforced the narrative connection between mechanical gameplay and the ongoing story arc of the Gatewatch, a coalition of heroes featured prominently throughout the series.
