Gift Shop

Gift Shop was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity set, the fourth installment in Wizards of the Coast's 'Un-' series of Magic: The Gathering expansion sets. Designed as a silver-bordered style experience within a black-bordered environment, Unfinity was crafted to explore the outer reaches of game design, focusing on humor and 'top-down' conceptual space themes. The card itself utilizes the set's signature retro-futuristic, mid-century sci-fi aesthetic, which was heavily influenced by 1950s aerospace illustrations and the vibrant, kitschy branding of fictional space-themed amusement parks.

The art for this specific variant was commissioned to evoke the feeling of a nostalgic souvenir kiosk found in an interstellar theme park. It serves as a narrative piece of world-building for the set's fictional setting, Myra the Magnificent's Intergalactic Astrotorium of Fun. While the Un-series cards are generally excluded from competitive tournament play due to their non-traditional mechanics, the design was well-received by collectors who prioritize the thematic visual storytelling and whimsical art direction synonymous with the set's overarching aesthetic.
