Where it came from
Grateful Apparition was released in 2022 as part of the New Capenna Commander set, a collection designed to tie into the Art Deco-inspired, noir-infused world of Streets of New Capenna. Within the game's mechanics, this card represents the spectral influence of the Obscura, one of the five crime families that dominate the city's skyline, serving as an engine for the +1/+1 counter synergy central to the set's white-blue-black color identity.
The artwork for the piece was crafted by illustrator Wisnu Tan, who utilized a moody, ethereal color palette to emphasize the character's ghostly presence amidst the high-contrast architecture of the setting. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional and flavorful inclusion for players focusing on counter-based strategies, reflecting the set's overall thematic blend of urban grit and supernatural mystery.
