Where it came from
Released in 2019 as part of the Throne of Eldraine expansion, Happily Ever After is a rare enchantment card that leans heavily into the set's thematic inspiration: classic European folklore and fairy tales. Designed by Wizards of the Coast to be a humorous, high-difficulty challenge for players, the card requires the owner to control permanents of all five colors, have a specific life total, and possess creatures of six distinct types to win the game instantly.
The artwork for this specific promotional version was crafted to evoke the feeling of a storybook illustration, utilizing a whimsical, vibrant style that captures the 'happily ever after' trope. While the card is often viewed as a novelty piece due to its difficult victory condition, it remains a notable example of the creative card design found in the Eldraine set, reflecting the game's shift toward incorporating meta-narratives directly into the mechanics of gameplay.
