Where it came from
Hedron Fields of Agadeem is a land card originally appearing in the Zendikar expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released in 2009. The set introduced the concept of land-focused mechanics, reflecting the plane's unstable, mana-rich environment. This particular iteration was reprinted as part of the Planechase Anthology in 2016, a collection designed to support the multiplayer format where players traverse different planes of the multiverse.
The card was illustrated by the artist Todd Lockwood, who focused on depicting the surreal, gravity-defying architecture of the Zendikar plane. His work emphasizes the iconic floating stone structures, or hedrons, which are central to the lore of the setting. The design was received as a functional, strategic tool for graveyard recursion, allowing players to recover creatures from their discard piles under specific conditions.
