Provenance

Where it came from

The Illusion token, numbered 17 in the Commander Legends set released in 2020, was created to support the specific mechanics of the set, which was designed as the first Magic: The Gathering draftable experience built entirely for the Commander format. In this context, the token serves as a physical representation of creatures generated by cards like 'Illusionist's Stratagem' or various blue-aligned spells that produce temporary, often fragile, battlefield presence.

The artwork for this token adheres to the ethereal, shifting aesthetic common to the Illusion creature type within the game's broader lore, focusing on translucent forms and magical energy. Like other tokens in the Commander Legends set, it was designed to be functional for play while maintaining the high-quality illustrative standards that Wizards of the Coast mandates for its secondary game components, providing players with a clear and consistent visual marker during complex multiplayer matches.
