Where it came from
Infantry Shield is a common artifact card released in the 2017 Commander set titled Commander 2017. This set was designed to focus on tribal synergies, with the Dragonstorm deck specifically emphasizing the dragon creature type and the mechanics of the Tarkir plane. The card serves as a functional piece of equipment, providing a modest toughness boost and vigilance to the equipped creature to support a defensive board state.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Igor Kieryluk, whose work often leans into the high-fantasy aesthetic prevalent in Magic: The Gathering. The design focuses on the practical utility of a shield within the context of the Tarkir military forces, reflecting the themes of resilience and martial preparation established in the block’s lore. It was received by players as a straightforward, utility-focused inclusion typical of the deck's support slots.
