Provenance

Where it came from

The Insect token, bearing collector number 40, was released in 2022 as part of the Battle for Baldur's Gate set for Magic: The Gathering. This set, designed to integrate the lore and flavor of Dungeons & Dragons into the card game, utilized tokens to represent temporary creatures generated by various spells and abilities within the expansion's gameplay mechanics.

The artwork for this token adheres to the stylistic guidelines established for the set, focusing on the dark, swampy, or hive-like aesthetics often associated with insectoid creatures in the Forgotten Realms setting. As a utility token, it serves a functional role in gameplay rather than a narrative one, providing players with a consistent visual marker for the creatures summoned during their matches.
