Where it came from
The Insect token was released in 2018 as part of the Masters 25 set, a special compilation designed to celebrate the twenty-five-year history of Magic: The Gathering. These tokens were included in booster packs to serve as representational game pieces for cards that create creature tokens, specifically for spells or abilities that put 1/1 green Insect creatures onto the battlefield.
The artwork for this token was produced by Izzy, a long-time contributor to the game's visual identity. The design leans into the thematic aesthetic of the set, which drew upon iconic imagery from the game's past, focusing on a clear and functional illustration that remains consistent with the game’s standards for token clarity while maintaining the distinct, detailed style for which the artist is known.
