Where it came from
Insidious Will was originally printed as a rare card in the 2016 Magic: The Gathering set Kaladesh, a plane inspired by an aesthetic blend of steampunk and Indian art. This particular version is a promotional printing designated by the collector number 52s, released as part of a series of cards given to players for participating in designated organized play events or through specific promotional channels during the set's cycle.
The artwork for this card was created by illustrator Clint Cearley, who sought to capture the card's theme of manipulating magical spells and outcomes through a sleek, intricate visual style consistent with the inventions of the Aether-rich world of Kaladesh. The card was well-received by players for its utility in gameplay, specifically its ability to provide flexible counter-magic options, solidifying its place in the history of blue-aligned cards from that era.
