Where it came from
Interplanar Tunnel was released in 2012 as part of the Planechase 2012 product line, an expansion to the Magic: The Gathering multiplayer format that utilizes oversized cards to represent different locales within the multiverse. Designed by Wizards of the Coast to facilitate the game's core mechanic of shifting between planes, this card serves as a utility tool, allowing players to manipulate the order of the planar deck to favor their own strategies.
The card's aesthetic reflects the high-fantasy industrialism characteristic of the set, featuring artwork by Terese Nielsen. Her illustration utilizes a vibrant, surreal color palette and swirling geometric motifs to evoke the feeling of unstable magical transit between dimensions. Upon its release, it was well-received by players for its ability to provide much-needed consistency to the otherwise chaotic and randomized nature of Planechase games.
