Where it came from
Mount Keralia was introduced as part of the Planechase 2012 release, a supplemental product for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It served as a unique 'plane' card, designed to represent a chaotic and mountainous landscape that players could visit during gameplay. These cards were intended to bring an interactive, shifting environment to the game, moving beyond standard creature and spell cards to create a more dynamic experience on the tabletop.
The card features an evocative illustration by artist Jung Park, who was tasked with capturing the rugged, volcanic aesthetic of the location. The design emphasizes the elemental power of the mountain, aligning with the broader creative vision of the set which sought to bring the vast, varied worlds of the Multiverse to life. It was generally well-received by the community for its thematic resonance and the distinct tactical influence it exerted over the flow of a Planechase match.
