What it does

This creature can't block creatures with power 2 or greater.

Generations of genetic weeding have given rise to the deviously cowardly Ironclaw clan. To say that Orcs in general are vicious, depraved, and ignoble does not do justice to the Ironclaw.

Provenance

Where it came from

Ironclaw Orcs appeared in the Limited Edition Beta set of Magic: The Gathering, released in October 1993. This set was an expansion of the original Limited Edition Alpha, designed to address print errors and meet the overwhelming demand that occurred after the game's debut. As part of the core set, these cards helped establish the fundamental mechanics of the game's creature-based combat, placing the orc within the red mana color pie.

The artwork for this card was created by Dan Frazier, one of the game's original contributing artists. His illustration follows the distinct aesthetic of the early game, which prioritized fantasy grit over modern digital polish. The card was designed as a low-cost common, intended to fill out the combat ranks and provide basic aggressive utility for players building red decks during the game's formative period.
