Where it came from
Island Fish Jasconius was released as part of the Summer Magic set, colloquially known as Edgar, in 1994. This unique print run was produced for the Philippine market by Wizards of the Coast and remains one of the most sought-after variations of the Revised Edition base set. It was designed to address local demand, featuring distinct card stock and ink saturation that differentiate it from the standard international releases of the era.
The card features artwork by Christopher Rush, one of the most prolific and iconic illustrators in early Magic: The Gathering history. Rush was known for his vibrant, imaginative depictions of creatures and artifacts that defined the game's high-fantasy aesthetic during its inception. Island Fish Jasconius is a classic example of his ability to render mythological monstrosities, capturing the massive scale and ancient, slumbering nature of the creature as described in the game's early lore.
