Kellan, Daring Traveler // Journey On

Kellan, Daring Traveler // Journey On was released in late 2023 as part of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This double-faced card represents the character Kellan during his adventurous exploration of the subterranean world of Ixalan, serving as a mechanical continuation of his narrative arc across the set. The card was designed to highlight the dual nature of exploration, transitioning from a creature that facilitates deck searching into a potent enchantment that rewards the player for venturing further into the game.

The artwork for this promotional version of the card was rendered to capture the high-fantasy, expedition-themed aesthetic central to the Ixalan setting. By utilizing the specific promo framing available during the set's release, the design team aimed to provide a distinct visual experience for players seeking alternative aesthetics for their collections. It was received as a functional and narrative-driven piece within the broader set, reflecting the ongoing commitment of Wizards of the Coast to integrating character-focused storytelling into card mechanics.
