Living Wish

Living Wish was released as part of the 2002 World Championship Decks, a series of preconstructed products that replicated the exact 75-card decks used by the top players at the Magic: The Gathering World Championship held in Sydney. These decks were designed as educational and commemorative tools, allowing players to experience the high-level strategies that defined the competitive meta of the era.

The card itself features artwork by Eric Peterson, whose distinct fantasy style helped define the visual language of the Odyssey block. In competitive play, Living Wish was a powerful utility card that allowed players to retrieve creatures or lands from outside the game, a mechanic that rewarded deep sideboard preparation and extensive knowledge of the card pool. Its inclusion in these gold-bordered decks made the powerful mechanics of professional play accessible to a wider audience, even though the cards themselves were not legal for sanctioned tournament use.
