Forest

The 2002 World Championship Decks were released by Wizards of the Coast to allow players to experience the specific deck lists used by the top eight finalists of the 2002 Magic: The Gathering World Championship held in Sydney, Australia. Unlike standard booster packs, these decks were sold as boxed sets containing non-tournament legal cards with gold-bordered backs and facsimile signatures of the professional players. This specific Forest, labeled as rl348, was included as a basic land within the decks to replicate the exact build of the tournament competitors.

The design of this card adheres to the standard aesthetic established for the Seventh Edition core set, which utilized clean, digital-heavy illustrations that were characteristic of the turn of the millennium. By featuring these cards in the championship product, Wizards of the Coast sought to provide a direct educational tool for the competitive community, offering a window into the high-level playstyles and metagames of 2002. While these cards were received with initial skepticism due to their lack of legal standing in sanctioned play, they have since become a nostalgic touchstone for collectors interested in the history of professional Magic.
