Where it came from
The 2002 World Championship Decks were released by Wizards of the Coast as a way to provide fans with replicas of the top-performing decks from the 2002 Magic: The Gathering World Championship. These decks were unique in that they featured gold-bordered cards with non-standard backs, making them ineligible for sanctioned tournament play but highly sought after as keepsakes of professional gameplay history.
The card cr335b, an Island from the basic land cycle included in these decks, retains the classic aesthetic of the Seventh Edition core set, which utilized the 'Island' artwork originally by Rob Alexander. This specific version was chosen to mirror the deck configurations used by finalists in the world event, providing players with a tangible connection to the high-stakes meta-game of the early 2000s.
