What it does
Banding (Any creatures with banding, and up to one without, can attack in a band. Bands are blocked as a group. If any creatures with banding you control are blocking or being blocked by a creature, you divide that creature's combat damage, not its controller, among any of the creatures it's being blocked by or is blocking.)
At the beginning of your upkeep, this creature deals 3 damage to you unless you discard a card. If it deals damage to you this way, tap it.

Where it came from
Mishra's War Machine appeared as part of the 1994 Edgar set, better known to hobbyists as Summer Magic. This limited production run was intended as a corrected reprint of the Revised Edition, commissioned to address significant printing errors and color saturation issues present in the initial 1994 core set. Because a substantial portion of the print run was destroyed due to quality control concerns, these cards represent a rare transitional moment in the early history of the trading card game.
The card features artwork by Christopher Rush, one of the most prolific and celebrated artists of the game's formative years. Designed to reflect the mechanical, industrial aesthetic of the Brothers' War narrative arc, the illustration focuses on the brutal, artifact-heavy lore of the setting. While the gameplay mechanics remained identical to those found in the preceding Revised Edition, the Summer Magic printing is distinguished by its distinctively sharper image quality and corrected text, making it a highly sought-after curiosity for dedicated historians of the medium.
