Demonic Hordes

Demonic Hordes was originally printed as a rare card in the 1994 Summer Magic expansion, a set intended to be a corrected reprint of the Limited Edition Alpha and Beta cards. Due to a series of high-profile production errors—most notably the accidental inclusion of the card Hurricane as a green creature—the entire print run was officially recalled and largely destroyed. This specific card, identifiable by its unique production context and the Edgar set code, is one of the few survivors of an intended mass-market release that failed to reach traditional distribution.

The card’s artwork was illustrated by Dameon Willich, who contributed numerous pieces to the early history of the game. His design for Demonic Hordes features a dark, imposing aesthetic consistent with the aggressive and destructive mechanical theme of the Black color alignment. Because of the limited survival rate of the Summer Magic print run, this particular version of the card has become an iconic piece of gaming history, valued by collectors for its role in the chaotic and rare development cycle of the early Magic: The Gathering era.
