Where it came from
Time Distortion was released as part of the Planechase 2012 card set, a supplemental release for the Magic: The Gathering collectible card game. The set was designed to introduce a multiplayer format where players traverse different dimensions, known as planes, which alter the rules of the game. Released in the summer of 2012, it provided players with pre-constructed decks containing these oversized plane cards to facilitate this specific playstyle.
The card features artwork by Kev Walker, a prominent illustrator in the Magic: The Gathering community known for his gritty, detailed style. The design of Time Distortion serves to disrupt the flow of combat, forcing players to reverse the order of their attacks, reflecting the chaotic and disorienting nature of the plane it represents. It was received as a flavorful addition to the format, praised for its ability to shift the momentum of a multiplayer game through its unique mechanical influence.
