Where it came from
Mystic Forge was introduced in the Core Set 2020 expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released in July 2019. Designed as a powerful artifact card, it serves as a central engine for colorless decks by allowing players to look at and play the top card of their library. The card was conceived to provide significant utility in artifact-heavy archetypes, quickly gaining prominence in both Standard and older formats for its ability to generate card advantage.
The 233s collector number denotes the promo version of the card, featuring unique borderless artwork by artist Titus Lunter. Lunter's design emphasizes the ethereal and mechanical nature of the forge, utilizing a sleek, high-fantasy aesthetic that aligns with the set's thematic exploration of powerful, ancient artifacts. Upon release, the card was well-received by the competitive community for its efficiency, leading it to become a staple component in various construct-based strategies.
