Where it came from
Obscura Ascendancy originated as part of the New Capenna Art Series, a collection of cards released in 2022 alongside the Streets of New Capenna expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set features high-quality, borderless prints of the artwork used in the main expansion, designed to celebrate the artistic direction of the Art Deco-inspired setting of New Capenna.
The artwork for this specific card was created by artist Livia Prima, who captured the sharp, sophisticated, and intrigue-focused aesthetic of the Obscura family. The design emphasizes the faction's themes of magical surveillance and intellectual prowess, utilizing stylized lines and a color palette evocative of the set's noir-fantasy atmosphere. It was well-received by players and collectors for its aesthetic contribution to the game’s immersive world-building.
