What it does
At the beginning of each upkeep, if you control no Snakes, create a 1/1 black Snake creature token with deathtouch.
Her writhing, boneless movements are unsettling to humans, but hypnotic to her serpent brood.

Where it came from
Ophiomancer was originally released in the 2013 Commander set, designed to provide black-aligned decks with a consistent source of creature tokens and board utility. Its inclusion in the 2021 Commander Collection: Black anthology served as a tribute to its role as a staple in the Commander format, where its ability to generate a 1/1 snake at the beginning of each upkeep proves highly effective for sacrifice-based strategies.
The art for this specific printing was illustrated by Johannes Voss, who utilized a dark, atmospheric palette to reflect the card's theme of forbidden nature and ritualistic summoning. Voss aimed to capture the tension between the mage and the slithering, serpentine swarm, a composition that was widely praised by players for its fluid movement and thematic coherence within the aesthetic standards of the modern Magic: The Gathering card frame.
