Where it came from
Opposition Agent was first introduced in the 2020 Commander Legends expansion as a powerful tool for competitive Magic: The Gathering play, designed to punish players for searching their libraries. The card quickly became a staple in the Commander format due to its ability to disrupt opponents and turn their own search effects against them, cementing its reputation as a high-impact, interaction-heavy card.
This specific version, numbered 81, was released as part of the Secret Lair Countdown Kit, a curated collection that celebrated the history of Magic through a countdown-style reveal. The art and design for this edition maintain the card's sinister thematic essence while utilizing the stylized aesthetic characteristic of the Secret Lair series, which sought to offer players premium, alternative-art versions of popular game pieces.
