Orcish Oriflamme

Orcish Oriflamme from the 1994 Summer Magic set, known colloquially as Edgar, emerged from a brief and tumultuous period in the history of Magic: The Gathering. Following the print errors and distribution issues of the Revised Edition, Wizards of the Coast commissioned this print run to correct card inconsistencies. However, the set was plagued by its own quality control failures, leading to its immediate recall and subsequent scarcity, which transformed these cards into some of the most sought-after rarities in the hobby.

The card artwork, illustrated by Dan Frazier, reflects the raw, early aesthetic of the game's initial expansions. Frazier's depiction of the orcish battle standard aligns with the aggressive, red-aligned mechanical identity of the card, which provides a power bonus to attacking creatures. While the original Unlimited version of the card was a staple for players, the Summer Magic printing represents a unique intersection of game history and publishing error, prized today more for its accidental rarity and unique color saturation than its utility on the tabletop.
