The Summer Magic Plains, often referred to by collectors as the Edgar set, originated from a 1994 printing intended to correct numerous errors found in the Revised Edition of Magic: The Gathering. Due to a series of distribution mishaps, the vast majority of this print run was ordered to be destroyed, with only a small number of boxes salvaged by employees and distributors. This scarcity has elevated the set to legendary status within the hobby, representing a strange, unintentional piece of history where a correction became the most sought-after iteration of the game's core cards.

Jesper Myrfors, who served as the original art director for Magic: The Gathering, provided the illustration for this basic land. His work during this era was defined by a raw, atmospheric aesthetic that grounded the game in traditional fantasy motifs. The design of this Plains is characteristic of the early style, favoring a minimalist and evocative depiction of open terrain that prioritized clarity and tone over the more elaborate digital techniques that would define later expansions.
