Where it came from
Over the Top was released as part of The Brothers' War expansion for Magic: The Gathering in late 2022. This card was designed as a rare, thematic addition to the set, which focuses on the lore of the conflict between Urza and Mishra. The card itself draws inspiration from the massive, chaotic mechanical warfare depicted in the game's narrative, serving as a powerful sorcery that encourages players to reveal cards from their library and put nonland permanent cards onto the battlefield.
The artwork for this particular promotional version features a dynamic, illustrative style that captures the sheer scale of the conflict described in the set's background. Created to appeal to collectors and players who appreciate the high-fantasy aesthetic of the franchise, the design emphasizes the destructive machinery central to the storyline. It was received as a flavorful, high-variance card that highlights the ambitious, destructive nature of the artifacts central to the Brothers' War conflict.
