Where it came from
Ovinize was originally released in the 2007 set Planar Chaos as part of the Time Spiral block, a series focused on alternate timelines and the potential futures of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. The card depicts a classic 'polymorph' effect, where a creature is transformed into a humble sheep, stripping it of its abilities and power. This iteration for Dominaria Remastered features updated framing that aligns with the modern aesthetics of the game while maintaining the card's original mechanical identity.
The art for this version was produced by Jesper Myhrvold, who captured the whimsical yet practical nature of the transformation spell. The design philosophy behind Ovinize has always centered on providing blue players with a reactive tool to neutralize high-threat enemy creatures by turning them into 0/1 creatures. Upon its release, it was noted by players for its flavor and utility, becoming a staple in various limited formats where defensive versatility is highly prized.
