Where it came from
Ovinomancer was originally released in the 1997 Multiverse Gift Box, a curated collection designed to celebrate the early success of Magic: The Gathering. As a card that embodies the whimsical and unconventional spirit of the Weatherlight Saga era, it serves as a quintessential example of the game's shift toward more experimental blue-aligned mechanics that play with board state transformation.
The artwork was illustrated by D. Alexander Gregory, whose distinct style contributed to the surrealist aesthetic prevalent in late 90s expansions. The card was designed as a high-risk, high-reward tactical tool, tasking players with returning lands to their hand to transform creatures into sheep. While it occupies a niche role in competitive play, it remains a beloved artifact among collectors for its imaginative flavor and the charm of its unique mechanical identity.
