Where it came from
Oviya, Automech Artisan, originally appearing in the Kaladesh set, was reimagined for the Aetherdrift Promos set as card number 173s. The character represents the creative spirit of the inventors of Ghirapur, a city defined by its mastery of aether-fueled technology. This particular version reflects a stylized departure from the original art, emphasizing the intricate, clockwork aesthetic that defines the artificers of this plane.
The Aetherdrift collection was curated to celebrate the intersection of mechanical ingenuity and artistic flair within the setting. By featuring prominent figures like Oviya, the design team aimed to highlight the tactile nature of artifact crafting. Reception among players has focused on the card's visual shift, which captures a sense of quiet focus in the workshop that contrasts with the high-energy inventions typically associated with the set's broader lore.
