Where it came from
Plagiarize was originally printed in the Urza's Destiny set in 1999 and was later reprinted as part of the Tenth Edition core set in 2007. The card represents the blue color identity's penchant for information warfare and imitation, allowing a player to look at an opponent's hand and draw a card. Tenth Edition served as a pivotal set at the time, marking the first core set to feature black-bordered cards and updated card frames, intended to modernize the look of the game for a new generation of players.
The artwork for the Tenth Edition printing was created by artist Heather Hudson. Her illustration captures the theme of intellectual theft, depicting a hooded figure siphoning knowledge through a mystical medium. Within the competitive landscape of the time, the card was viewed as a niche utility option, valued by players who favored control-oriented strategies and sought to gain incremental advantages by scouting their opponent's game plan.
