Rampant Growth

Rampant Growth was first introduced in the 1996 Mirage expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Designed to provide green decks with a consistent way to accelerate their mana base, the card quickly became a foundational element of the game’s resource management system. It emerged during a period when Wizards of the Coast was shifting toward more structured deck-building mechanics, aiming to balance the high-power artifacts of the game's early years with more reliable, color-aligned land searching.

The original illustration for this version was created by artist Christopher Rush. Known for his iconic work on the game's earliest sets, Rush captured the essence of rapid botanical expansion, featuring a twisting, organic form that mirrored the card’s mechanical purpose of growing a player's mana supply. The card was well-received by players for its elegant simplicity and has since been reprinted numerous times, remaining a hallmark of green deck utility due to its clarity and functional efficiency.
