Rampant Growth

Rampant Growth was first introduced in the Tempest expansion in 1997, designed by the Magic: The Gathering development team to provide green decks with a consistent way to accelerate their mana production. By allowing a player to search their library for a basic land card and put it onto the battlefield tapped, the card became a staple of the game's mechanics, defining the 'ramp' archetype for decades. The card's enduring popularity led to its inclusion in the core sets, specifically Ninth Edition in 2005.

The Ninth Edition printing features artwork by Donato Giancola, whose painterly style brought a more grounded and traditional fantasy aesthetic to the card. In this iteration, the illustration focuses on the vital, sprawling nature of the magic, depicting the sudden growth of flora that the spell represents.
