Rampant Growth

Rampant Growth was first introduced in the Mirage expansion in 1996 as a foundational green sorcery, designed to provide players with a simple yet effective way to accelerate their mana development. By searching the library for a basic land card and putting it onto the battlefield tapped, it became a staple of green's identity as a color focused on resource expansion and nature-based growth. This core functionality ensured its longevity, allowing it to become one of the most reprinted and recognizable utility cards in the history of the game.

The Seventh Edition printing, released in 2001, marked a significant aesthetic shift for the card, featuring new artwork by artist Doug Chaffee. This iteration was part of the transition to the updated card frame and art direction of the era, which aimed to bring a more unified and polished look to the Core Set. Chaffee’s illustration leaned into the classic fantasy aesthetic, depicting the lush, untamed growth of the natural world, which helped reinforce the card's mechanical role during a period when the game was focused on increasing accessibility for new players.
