The 1999 World Championship Decks were a limited-run product released by Wizards of the Coast to commemorate the top decks from the 1999 Magic: The Gathering World Championship held in Tokyo. These decks were designed to be non-tournament legal replicas of the decks piloted by the finalists, allowing players to experience professional-level strategies and deck-building philosophy firsthand. Each deck included a set of gold-bordered cards that featured unique backs and signature printings, distinguishing them from standard tournament cards while preserving the iconic artwork of the originals.

The Mountain card included in this set features the classic illustration originally commissioned for the core sets of the late 1990s. This specific entry, identified as part of the representative lands for these championship decks, utilizes the bold, evocative landscape style that defined the aesthetic of early Magic: The Gathering. By including these foundational cards in the championship sets, the designers ensured that the complete mechanical ecosystem of a professional deck was represented, balancing the high-power utility cards with the necessary resource base of basic lands.
