Where it came from
Reality Shift was first introduced in the Fate Reforged expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 2015, later appearing in the Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander deck as card 163. Set within the planar world of Tarkir, the card reflects the themes of time manipulation and alternate realities central to the block's narrative, where the shifting of the timeline dramatically altered the plane's history and the fate of its dragon lords.
The card's artwork, illustrated by Min Yum, captures the chaotic essence of an entity being torn between states of existence. The design focuses on the core blue mechanical identity of transformation, allowing a player to exile a creature and replace it with a face-down manifest card. It has been well-received within the Commander format as a staple utility spell for blue decks, valued for its ability to provide flexible, efficient removal at a common rarity.
