Where it came from
Reality Shift was originally introduced in the Fate Reforged expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 2015. It represents the temporal instability of the plane of Tarkir, illustrating the moment a creature is erased from one timeline and replaced by a manifest creature—a mechanical representation of a shifted reality. The card quickly became a staple in the Commander format for blue decks, offering a rare, efficient exile effect in a color that typically struggles with permanent removal.
The version from Commander Masters, collector number 634, features an updated layout and frame treatment consistent with the set's premium aesthetic. The illustration by Magali Villeneuve captures the eerie, ethereal nature of the spell, focusing on the distorted transition of a subject caught in a temporal flux. This reprint was well-received by the player base for maintaining the utility of the original card while integrating it into a specialized set designed specifically for the Commander community.
