Where it came from
Regrowth is a classic green spell from the original Magic: The Gathering set, released in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast. Originally designed by Richard Garfield, the card was intended to capture the flavor of natural reclamation, allowing players to return any card from their graveyard to their hand. This mechanic became a foundational pillar of green’s identity in the game, emphasizing the cycle of growth and decay.
The artwork for this version was created by Dameon Willich, one of the original illustrators commissioned for the game’s first sets. Willich’s style, characterized by a somewhat raw and evocative aesthetic, helped establish the visual language of early Magic. The Unlimited Edition, released shortly after the initial Alpha and Beta prints, featured the same iconic artwork but was printed with a white border, making it a distinct piece of the game's early expansion history.
