Provenance

Where it came from

Regrowth is a classic green card from the earliest days of Magic: The Gathering, originally appearing in the Alpha set of 1993. The version designated as 214 from the 1994 Summer Magic set—often referred to by the internal project codename 'Edgar'—is one of the most storied rarities in the game's history. This set was intended to be a corrected reprint of Revised but was plagued by production errors, leading Wizards of the Coast to recall and destroy almost the entire print run. Only a small number of these cards escaped destruction, making this specific printing a legendary artifact among collectors of high-end cardboard.

The artwork for Regrowth was illustrated by Dan Frazier, whose distinctive style defined much of the aesthetic of early Magic. The design sought to visually represent the concept of nature’s cyclical return, depicting a forest floor reclaiming objects. When it was first introduced, the card was lauded for its powerful utility, allowing players to recover any card from their graveyard to their hand. Its status in Summer Magic elevates the original illustration by placing it on a rare, high-contrast card stock that remains a benchmark for the game's evolution.
