Where it came from
Resize was released in 2006 as part of the Coldsnap expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was unique in gaming history as the third installment of the Ice Age block, released a decade after its predecessors, Alliances and Ice Age, to complete a long-dormant narrative arc. The card itself reflects the set's thematic focus on the harsh, frigid environment of the plane of Dominaria, utilizing the 'replicate' mechanic to allow players to pay additional costs for multiple effects.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Heather Hudson, a prolific contributor to the game during the mid-2000s. Hudson employed a painterly style to depict the mechanical and magical transformation of the target creature. Within the competitive community, the card was received as a versatile utility piece for green-aligned decks, praised for its ability to offer both combat trickery and defensive utility depending on how many copies the player chose to replicate.
