Where it came from
Resolute Archangel was released as a promotional card for the Magic 2015 Core Set, distributed through Wizards of the Coast’s promotional channels such as Prerelease events or launch parties. As a cornerstone of the M15 set, the card was designed to highlight the angelic themes prevalent in white mana decks, emphasizing the game's focus on high-cost, high-impact creature spells that could stabilize a player’s life total during critical stages of a match.
The card’s striking illustration was rendered by artist Igor Kieryluk, who is well known for his contribution of atmospheric and powerful fantasy art within the Magic: The Gathering universe. Kieryluk aimed to evoke a sense of divine intervention and steadfast protection, utilizing glowing highlights and sweeping wing designs to reflect the angel's mechanical ability to reset a player's life to twenty. The piece was well received by the community for its cinematic composition, becoming a memorable example of mid-2010s card art design.
