Where it came from
The Resolute Blademaster was introduced in the 2015 Magic: The Gathering expansion, Battle for Zendikar. This set marked a return to the plane of Zendikar, a world defined by its adventurous spirit and the existential threat of the Eldrazi. The card represents a Kor ally, a nomadic race central to the plane's lore, showcasing the 'Ally' creature type mechanic that rewards players for building synergy-focused decks centered on cooperative themes.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Johannes Voss, who sought to capture the dynamic grace of the Kor warriors as they engage in combat. Voss emphasized the character's fluid movement and intricate gear, reflecting the high-fantasy aesthetic of the setting. Upon its release, the card was received as a solid centerpiece for draft and sealed play, noted for its ability to grant the 'double strike' keyword to other allies, effectively turning a modest board presence into a significant offensive threat.
