Resurrection

The Resurrection card from the 1994 Summer Magic set, colloquially known as the Edgar set, occupies a unique position in Magic: The Gathering history. Produced as a promotional print run for the Italian market, the set was intended to expand the game's international reach. Due to a printing error at the Cartamundi facility, the cards were mistakenly produced with the same black borders found on the rare limited-edition Beta set, rather than the white borders originally intended for the base game expansion.

The card features the original illustration by Dan Frazier, whose work is iconic for defining the early aesthetic of the game. Frazier’s depiction of a spectral hand pulling a figure from the earth emphasizes the darker, high-fantasy tone prevalent in the game’s debut. While the artwork was repurposed from the earlier Revised edition, the unintended black-bordered aesthetic of the Summer Magic run has made this specific printing a sought-after curiosity for collectors who value the intersection of printing anomalies and early game design.
