Provenance

Where it came from

Reverse Polarity was released as part of the 1994 Summer Magic set, also colloquially known as Edgar. This limited print run was created by Wizards of the Coast to address supply shortages in the immediate aftermath of the initial Magic: The Gathering base set release. Because the production process was rushed, the set is characterized by distinct color saturation differences and unique card back art compared to the original Alpha and Beta prints.

The card features artwork by Christopher Rush, one of the most prolific early illustrators for the game. His design for Reverse Polarity utilizes the high-contrast, mystical aesthetic that defined the game's early identity, aiming to visually represent the concept of magical redirection. While the set was once overlooked by collectors due to its unconventional origins, it has since become a significant piece of history for those tracking the early logistical evolution of the trading card game.
